Who Should Apply?

We’re looking to recognize the pillars and pioneers who have played critical roles in advancing cancer research in our region and beyond – individuals who have devoted their lives to fighting this disease through investigating and better understanding it. Scientists who have developed new drugs and treatment protocols, who hold patents, and who have added to our knowledge of cancer in a truly impactful way. We’re especially interested in individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to supporting the Arab world – through their research, mentorship, and collaborations. 

Application Process

Submissions to the Lifetime Achievement Award take place in two phases: first, the applicants are nominated by an eligible colleague, or they may choose to self-nominate. The submission process is then completed in a second phase by the applicant. 

 

 

Nominee Eligibility

  • MD, PhD, or MD/PhD or equivalent degree.
  • Affiliated or previously affiliated (in case of retirement) with a reputable institution involved in cancer research.
  • Demonstrated that at least 50% of career work is dedicated to cancer research
  • Evidence of meaningful existing collaboration with researchers or institutions in the Arab world, as well as a commitment to continue supporting institutions in the region through future collaborations, is preferred.
  • Demonstrated lifelong commitment to researching and combatting cancer, including but not limited to:
    • Improving prevention, diagnosis, or treatment
    • Leadership, mentorship, and collaboration
  • Not a previous recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Nominator Eligibility

  • PhD or MD with at least 15 years active in research and a strong publication history
  • Declaration of affiliation with a credible medical/academic institution

The Award

  • Recognition in the King Hussein Award Ceremony in Amman, Jordan 
  • Prize of $30,000
  • Awarded to two applicants annually (one regionally-based, one internationally-based)
