Young Investigator

The King Hussein Award’s Young Investigator Award recognizes investigators at the beginning of their careers (age 45 and younger) for their impactful and innovative contributions to cancer research. The Award includes the following two tracks:

1.      Regional Track: Available to young investigators working in the region

2.      International Track: Available to young investigators of Arab origin working abroad

How to Apply

To apply for the Young Investigator Award, interested individuals must submit an application which includes the following components:

  • Applicant CV
  • Metrics link (H-index and citations (Scopus)
  • Scopus journal metrics to publications
  • Personal statement summarizing career achievement with emphasis on research productivity
  • Patents (if any)
  • Signed letter of endorsement from the leadership of a primary Institution (addressed to King Hussein Award Evaluation Committee) 
  • 10 best publications (publications should be original and the applicant should be first or corresponding author)

Conditions for Applying

Eligible submissions to the Young Investigator Award shall meet the following conditions:

  • Young investigator (age 45 and younger)
  • MD, PhD, or MD/PhD or equivalent degree
  • Applicant has impactful and innovative contributions to cancer research
  • Previous winners of the young investigator may reapply after five years.
  • Members of the Award Board are not eligible to apply to the Award during their term of service and for one year after
  • Evaluation Committee Members are not eligible to apply for any Award which their Committee is responsible for evaluating during their term of service
  • Only one submission will be accepted per applicant per award cycle

Evaluation Criteria

Awarded applicants will be selected based upon evaluation of the following criteria:

  • Originality and innovation
  • Quality of research design and methodology
  • Journal ranking of the published research (Scopus indexing and impact factor)
  • Number of citations for the published research (according to Scopus) and h-index
  • Collaborative research activities on the national, regional, and international level
  • Applicant’s overall research achievements yielded positive outcomes (new applied technology patency, new drug, new treatment protocol, etc.)
  • Relevance and/or relation to local health priorities
  • Importance of the applicant’s research achievement and contribution to knowledge/care
  • Interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary
