Lifetime Achievement Regional Track
Professor Mohammad Abu Hilal is an academic oncology surgeon with a special interest in Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Surgery. He is an international pioneer who led the international development of minimally invasive surgery for liver and pancreatic cancer. He completed his surgical training in the Wessex region in the UK, and his fellowship in liver surgery and transplant at St. James Hospital in Leeds. In 2006, he was appointed as a consultant surgeon at the University of Southampton, where he became a professor of minimally invasive surgery in 2017. In 2019, he was headhunted by the Poliambulanza Hospital in Brescia, Italy to lead the surgical departments and develop the hospital’s robotic surgical service. In 2024, he moved to Jordan where he practiced in the private sector and in 2025 he was appointed as a Professor of Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Jordan.
Professor Abu Hilal has chaired and developed the most recent guidelines in minimally invasive liver and pancreatic surgery and has held several international leadership positions, including: President of the International minimally Invasive liver society (ILLS); Chair of the Scientific Program Committee of the European Hepatobiliary Pancreatic Surgical Association (EAHPBA); Chair of the International Minimally Invasive Pancreatic Consortium (IMIPS).
